Incoming material requirements
Material grade, condition and any requested supporting documentation should be defined in the purchasing specification. Requirements for material certificates or additional verification depend on the component and the customer’s application.
In-process and final inspection
Critical dimensions, appearance requirements and inspection frequency should be included in the agreed quality plan. Measurement methods must suit the feature being checked. A general equipment accuracy figure should not be treated as a guaranteed tolerance for every finished part.
Changes and nonconforming parts
A practical quality arrangement specifies how drawing changes are approved and how suspected nonconforming parts are identified, assessed and communicated. Customer approval is needed for any deviation from the agreed acceptance requirements.
Inspection documentation
Discuss required inspection records before placing an order: drawing revision, inspected characteristics, sampling expectations and any customer-specific report format. Record availability and the extent of traceability must be confirmed for the project.
Systems and certificates
Review management-system documents alongside the actual scope of the order.
